Course Description
This class is designed to be a comprehensive study of word processing equipment, systems, and procedures. Emphasis is placed on word processing applications, work measurement, and comparative product evaluationTextbook/Software Requirements
The following are required. You will not be able to take the course without this software and book. Assignments for this class begin the first day of class and the first due date follows quickly. You need to be ready to start when the semester starts by already having these. No late work is accepted, so if you don't have what you need to take the class, you should not take the class.
1. Microsoft Office Word 2007. You MUST use Word 2007 to complete work for this course. A student version of Office is available at an excellent price at Barnes and Noble (considerably below retail non-educational)
2. SimNet Access Code. Both the access code and Office software are available at the Barnes and Noble bookstore on campus. The Access code is also available at http://sfa.simnetonline.com

ISBN #978-0-538-73025-9Course Prerequisites
Completion of CSC 121 or the equivalent. Since this is an application of software and NOT a keyboarding class, to be successful we recommend a keyboarding speed of at least 30 wpm.
Course Format and Participation Requirements
The format for this course includes scheduled assignments and deadlines (which are strictly adhered to -- there is a zero tolerance policy for late work), offline assignments and projects, online participation using SimNet software, and opportunities for online interaction. Another important fact for you to know is that this is not a "self-paced" course.
The course includes scheduled online quizzes and exams. The course also requires the final be taken in a face-to-face oncampus lab. All exams are online except the hands-on and proficiency exam, for which students will be required to come to campus. To be successful in this course, the typical student should plan to spend at least 12-15 hours per week working on this course.
On-campus or Face-to-Face Meeting Requirements
One -- (taken approximately midterm for a long semester, adjusted time frame for the summer based on starting and ending days)Effort Expected
This is a 3-credit-hour course. You should expect to work 2 to 3 hours per week for each credit hour. This estimate is for the fall and spring semesters; if the course is offered during the summer course, that number will be adjusted from a 15-week to 5-week schedule. This means you will need to allow for three weeks of work in every one week of summer school. It is very important you understand that with an online course you will be assuming more responsibility for the completion of the course. Completing an online course requires self-discipline and self-motivation. It is also very important to realize that just because you have completed one online course does not mean that you know what to expect on the next online course. It is very likely that another may be totally different in terms of amount of work and requirements.
Technical Requirements for the Course
Other than the minimum technical requirements for any course, students will need a computer that will run Microsoft Office 2007. See software needs above under Textbook/Software requirments. Before the Course Begins
